Marton railway station (formerly Ormesby railway station) serves the settlement of Marton, a suburb of Middlesbrough in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated on Ladgate Lane, at the end of The Grove, near Ormesby Hall. It is located on the Esk Valley Line 3 miles (5 km) south of Middlesbrough and is operated by Northern Rail who provide all of the station's passenger services.

The station has one platform, without a shelter or information screens, and is only served by a limited number of services per day.

History

Ormesby was one of the original railway stations on the Middlesbrough and Guisborough Railway. It was opened on 25 February 1854, serving the village of Ormesby.

In the late twentieth century, the station was renamed to Marton railway station to take advantage of the James Cook connection.

Services

Monday to Saturday: The service is made up of three elements.

The Esk Valley service between Middlesbrough and Whitby (4 trains each way per day) A two hourly service between Nunthorpe and Newcastle/Hexham via Hartlepool (6 trains each way per day, although one is shunted to the siding in Middlesbrough on weekdays before continuing to Newcastle) One train from Bishop Auckland (Darlington on Saturdays) to Nunthorpe One train from Nunthorpe to Middlesbrough

There is no Sunday service except from the start of the Summer timetable to the end of September.
